WOMAN'S SICKNESS BENEFIT

ASHBURTON, January 31
Frances Banner pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court today to three charges of misleading officials with the object of obtaining social security benefits. Evidence was given that the accused received a sickness benefit of £1 a week. When the doctor was too busy to; see her to renew : the certificates, she signed them herself. The accused was convicted and placed on probation for three years, and was ordered to repay £20 4s at the rate of 10s weekly.
