CHARGE AGAINST MOTORIST

For failing to declare the mileage run by a producer gas-driven car in July, September, and October last, W. R. Bradley was convicted and ordered to pay costs by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court yesterday.

Senior-Sergeant G. Paine said that 1 cars driven by producer gas were previously taxed on the mileage covered, but since September 19 last they had been exempt.

Pleading guilty, Bradley explained that he thought'that experimental gasdriven cars were not subject to taxation. He had no speedometer on the car and for that reason would not sign ths mileage declaration required. The tax owing^ plus 100 per cent, amounted to 9s lOd and he had paid. that.
