COMPTROLLER ARRIVES

AUCKLAND, January 17. Carrying 24 passengers and a quantity of mail and freight, the American Clipper of Pan-American Airways arrived from Noumea this afternoon, completing her journey from San Francisco, Captain K. V. Beer described the journey as comfortable and without incident. On account of the heavy loading leaving the- United States it was necessary to leave behind 2901b of. freight. The dog tax in the Hutt County has been fixed at 2s 6d for each dog kept solely for herding sheep or cattle, and 10s for any. other dog, plus an additional shilling for the hydatids remedy. During December 18 building permits to the value of £7764 were issued in the Hutt County. A £4000 building at Heretaunga accounted for.more than half the total.
