Mr. L. M. Smart. C.8.E., General Manager cf the Federated Malay States Railways, accompanied by Mrs. Smart, has arrived in New Zealand to spend two months' furlough here. Mr. and Mrs. Smart intend visiting the South Island first and will v.-ork northward. Mr. G. L. Page, Mayor of Nelson, is at present confined to bed in a private hospital in Wellington. Constable Williams, who has been stationed at Upper Hutt for the past four years, has been transferred '.o Carterton. Wing Commander Humphrey Bevan, Comptroller to the Governor-General-designate, Marshal of .the R.A.F. Sir Cyril Newail, arrived in Wellington this morning. Dr. M. A. F. Barnett, Director of Meteorological Services, is visiting the South Island. Professor I. L. G. Sutherland, of Canterbury University College, left for the south last night. Mr. W. M. Satterthwaite has returned to the South Island. Mr. F. M. Corkill, Invercargill City Engineer, left last night for the South Island. Mr. W. Russell-Wood, Dunedin, accompanied by Mr. B. Donovan, Melbourne, left Wellington last night for Rotorua and Auckland.
