STOKES VALLEY
FIRE BRIGADE NEEDS
A deputation from the Stokes -Valley Fire Brigade waited upon the Hutt County Council yesterday afternoon, requesting further assistance and the framing of regulations governing fire permits, breaks, and similar things.
The brigade, it was stated by members of the deputation, had already raised the sum of- £93. With this a trailer had been purchased, also equipment and a number of odds and ends. The grant of material from the County Council had enabled a station to be built, but what was wanted now was a portable trailer pump. If this and further equipment were provided, it would be possible to extend the boundaries within which the. brigade would operate. The work already done by the brigade, it was maintained, had justified its formation. Within reach of 500 feet of standard hose was water in. practically every part of Stokes Valley. Members of the council" said that the brigade was to be congratulated upon what it had done, but-the position would have to be carefully considered before the council could commit itself to further assistance. The brigade, however, could be assured that, its requests would be given as'favourable consideration as possible. It was decided to take steps to declare the area a fire district so- as to prevent the unauthorised lighting of fire*,
