EXPLOSION IN A HEAP

GREYMOUTH, January 16,

An explosion about 11 p.m. in Johnstone Street showered small stones on nearby buildings in the western end of the business quarter of Greymouth.

Investigation showed that the seat of the explosion was a heap of gravel in which plugs of gelignite had evidently been buried and fired with six feet of fuse.

The affair remains a mystery,
