INCREASE IN NET REVENUE

A substantial increase in the net revenue of the railways for the period from April 1 to December 7 of the present financial year is disclosed in returns gazetted yesterday. It amounted to £838,796, as compared with £340,691 for the corresponding period last year. Revenue for the period amounted to £7,316,279, an increase of £783,377, and expenditure totalled £6,477,483, or £285,272 more than for the previous year.

For the four-weekly period ended December 7 the net revenue was £126,922, as compared with £91,506 for the corresponding four weeks of 1939.

Revenue totalled £863,495 and expenditure £736,573, as compared with £780,143 and £688,637 respectively.
