DANGEROUS PLIMMERTON CROSSING

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Splendid work was done by the Public Works Department some 18 months ago in improving visibility at the railway crossing at Plimmerton. Included in this work was the removal of a small sand-hill on the western side of the road, just before turning over the crossing. Unfortunately, a structure in wood and iron, owned, I understand, by the Railway Department, has been left on this western side of the road. With this out of the way motorists would have an unobstructed view of the crossing. During the Christmas and New Year holidays two tents erected on either side of the building referred to have made things worse than ever. This is a nasty crossing and road intersection and I know of at least two collisions having occurred there recently. There is plenty of land available nearby for tent pitching or car parking but neither should be allowed on this particular area where visibility is so important.—l am, etc.,

OBSERVER.
