DRASTIC POWERS
NATIONAL SECURITY
AUSTRALIAN REGULATIONS
(Received January 14, 2 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The Federal Government has taken drastic powers under the National Security Act to check attempts to interfere with war production, to prevent disaffection in the Australian Forces, and to preserve the public morale. An amending regulation prohibits subversive statements. A subversive statement is defined as any statement intended or likely to interfere with the national effort by disruption of the morale of the civilian population or members of the Forces or to prejudice or interfere with the production and carriage of goods required for the war. Statements of a disloyal or unpatriotic nature are also defined as subversive. The regulations also prohibit any statement likely to prejudice the success of Government financial schemes. . .
