MEAT SHORTAGE
RATIONING IN BRITAIN
LONDON, January 3.
The "Daily Telegraph" says that the reduction of the meat ration, was announced during a week in which housewives in many parts of the country are receiving smaller joints as the result of a general shortage which has forced the butchers to make an unofficial cut in the ration well below the Is lOd level. Many retailers are allotting only Is 2d worth. Butchers in pne area reduced the ration to 6d. The shortage is due to the fact that the Ministry of Food was forced to release less meat than usual largely because of difficulties following the Christmas distribution.
The "Evening News" says that some butchers in north London were forced to close yesterday because they had no meat, and that others opened for a few hours till they sold out.
The Ministry has reduced the ration from Is lOd worth of meat a head a jweek to Is 6d worth from Monday From that date pork and most offals will be included in the ration.
