OFFICIAL REPORT

FIRES UNDER CONTROL

(Received January 4, 9 a.m.)

LONDON, January 3.

An Air Ministry and Home Security communique says: "The main enemy attack last night was a town* in South, Wales (Cardiff), where considerable damage was done to houses and commercial and other buildings. A number of fires broke out, but fire services extinguished many and brought all the rest under control by early morning. A number of people were killed and others injured.

"Bombs were also dropped in other parts of the country, but the damage was small and the casualties very few."

A report from Cardiff states that the public services are proceeding- fairly smoothly.

It is noteworthy that the communique does not specifically mention London, thus supporting the belief that no bombs were dropped in the London area during last night's "nuisance ,raid."
