COACHING SCHEME

WELLINGTON ATHLETES

Plans were made to put into operation today at Hataitai Park the combined scheme of coaching for Wellington athletics clubs, which was proposed by Mr. F. Bond, of the Kiwi AA I3lub, at the Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre annual .meeting. The coaching system adopted will be that which was taught by the American coach, Mr. A. L. Fitch, when he was in Wellington. The athletes are to be grouped into sections for the events they are interested in, and the coaches are to take charge and work to the schedules as taken from Mr. Fitch's work. Clubs have already arranged to have their coaches attend Hataitai Park each Saturday until the regular meetings start.

Some prominent athletes have offered their services for the training scheme. They are K. Guy (shot put), J. Prendergast (jumps), A. R. Wilson and D. R. Scrymgeom (distance events), C. B. Allan and C. Dickie (middle-distance), and Colin Robinson and J. Ford (sprinting).

It is intended to carry out physical training with the athletic training. This will be given by Mr. J. Gilmore, who ,is at present receiving physical training instruction under Mr. Bach, of the Physical Welfare and Recreation Department.

If this scheme is a success it will he a useful follow-up to the very fine gesture of Mr. Ben Sutherland in sponsoring the visit of the American coach to this country. All secondary school boys and men of the forces are invited to attend the training meetings.
