TWO MEN MISSING
LOSS OF LIFE FEARED
(Special to the "Evening Post.") | GISBORNE, October 13. The discovery of a small boat badly smashed by the sea on the Nuhaka beach yesterday has provided the sequel to a midweek storm in which two young men are believed to have perished while en route from Portland Island to Waikokopu. The two men are Ralph Nevill, aged 19, son of Mr. William Nevill, farmer, whose home is on Portland Island, and George Poipoi, aged 23, a Maori, of the Wairoa district.
The men left Portland Island early on Wednesday before the storm then gathering had shown more than a trace of its strength. Their boat was a light craft fittfd with an outboard motor, and when last sighted from Portland Island it was making good progress along the coast of Mahia Peninsula towards Waikokopu.
The storm aroused concern for the safety of the men, and the postmaster at Waikokopu and police stations along the northern portion of the Hawke's Bay coast were advised to keep a watch for the boat.
