MAGISTRATE'S COURT
An argument in the street resulted in the appearance in the Magistrate's Court today of Francis Patrick Fleetwood, a labourer, aged 38, who pleaded guilty to a'-fifth offence of drunkenness, to assaulting George Tupe, and damaging a cell utensil. He was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment with hard labour on the drunkenness charge, and convicted and discharged on the other two charges. Lindsay Duguid, a labourer, aged 55, was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment for a fifth statutory offence of drunkenness.
William Mcßeynolds, a fireman and plater, aged 31, and Patrick Lynch, a seaman and. fisherman, aged 31, who were jointly charged with breaking and entering the premises of Gits Motors with intent to commit theft, were remanded to October 21. Each was charged,, separately, with being a rogue and a vagabond, in that he was found in possession of housebreaking implements. Bail was refused after an application by Mr. R. Hardie Boys, counsel for the accused, had been opposed by- Detective-Sergeant W. McLennan. The men were arrested by Detectives Smeaton, Urquhart. Hogan, and Hedley. Charles Gordon Dumbleton, a metal worker, aged 24, pleaded guilty to being intoxicated in charge of a car in the driveway of the National Art Galley and Dominion Museum. The Magistrate imposed a fine of £25, and cancelled Dumbleton's licence for a period of twelve months.
E. Johnston and Co., auctioneers, will sell showcases, fittings, etc., on the premises, at Government Court, Centennial Exhibition, tomorrow, at 10.30 a.m. They will also sell household furnishings at their mart, 8 Willeston Street, on Wednesday, at 10.30 a.m.
