A MONTH'S GAOL
Sentences of one month's imprisonment on each of three charges of theft, to run concurrently, were imposed upon Hugh Matheson, a seaman, aged 38. who appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court on Monday and pleaded guilty to the theft of two sums of money at Christchurch, and to the theft of money and an overcoat from the Missions to Seamen, Wellington.
Matheson, said Detective-Sergeant W. McLennan, was formerly employed as a porter at the sanatorium at Cashmere Hills, Christchurch. He stole two sums of money from the lockers of patients before he came to Wellington. He was before the Court here on a theft charge on September 19, and on the same night he went to the Missions to Seamci, entered the chapel,, broke open a rash-box, and took an overcoat. The caretaker found him on the premises, but he escaped through a window and down a fire escape. Matheso-i whs later arrested by Constable A. P. Jesson.
