BRAVE BOY SCOUT
The GiEt Cross of the Boy Scout' Associaticisn, for gallantry, has been, awarded 4o Ralph WatMn, aged 13, : of the CalQiope Sea Scouts, Devonport, Auckland, for saving another lad from drowning. The Dominion headquarters of the Scout movement, at Wellington, luas received advice that the Dominion Chief Scout, Lord Galway, has approved the award. On Aprill 7, Balph. Watkin went swimming at Devonport beach with his brother CoiUn. They swam, out to a raft about Ett) yards from- shore, through a choppy sea. A friend, Rex Cubitt, then starteji for the raft, but. on the way tired ;sn& sank. Ralph dived in and started! to--bring--'the.-other boy ashore by "the approved life-saving method. CuSbitt struggled and hit out wildly with, his fists, but Ralph's training enajbled him to secure the boy and tow. Mm ashore. Both were exhausted aitid were helped out.of the water by a stranger.-, Cubitt would certainly ha^we' drowried had he been alone. . ':''
