DULL AND COOL

INTERMITTENT LIGHT RAIN Special forecast for Wellington:— Fresh southerly breezes. Weather dull and cool, with intermittent light rain... Similar conditions kre likely to persist over the weekend. ! The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole is for light to moderate and variable winds in the south, with moderate to strong southerlies to southeasterlies in central provinces and with fresh north-easterlies in the Auckland Province. Over most of the South Island the weather will be fair to fine, but in the Cook Strait area and thence northward it will be dull and unsettled with scattered rain or drizzle. Temperatures in the north will be moderate, but they will be cool in the south with some sharp frosts. During the last twenty-four hours pressure" has remained comparatively high over the Dominion, but two low pressure troughs have tended to make the weather rather unsettled. One of these has remained stationary over the Auckland Province, while the other has advanced from the south to as far north as Taranaki. Winds have been mainly light to fresh in force. Northeasterlies have prevailed in the Auckland Province, where there has been very low cloud with considerable drizzle. In the central provinces winds have been north-westerly in direction and scattered rain has fallen. Behind the second low pressure trough came south-westerlies with a few showers, but there was a fairly rapid improvement in weather, conditions, especially in the west and south. Temperatures in the north have been moderate to mild, but in the south they have been rather cooler.

In Auckland and Wellington yesterday the weather was cloudy, with occasional drizzle in the former and light showers, totalling three points of rain, in the latter. In Christchurch and Dunedin it was fine, although rather cloudy in the former. The maximum temperature in Wellington yesterday rose to 61.4 degrees, the minimum last being 46.6 degrees.
