SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 As his Majesty the King has expressed the desire that Sunday, September 8, being the first Sunday after the anniversary of the outbreak of war, should be observed as a day of national prayer in the United Kingdom, his Excellency the GovernorGeneral has written to the heads ot churches throughout the Dominion suggesting that the day mentioned might be observed in New Zealand also as one of national prayer. The King's desire was made known on August 14, when the Archbishop^ of Canterbury, Dr. Cosmo Lang, pointed out that President Roosevelt also had called his people to prayer on September It was stated that Cardinal Hinsley, Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster, had responded to his Majesty's proposal by directing special observances on that day.
