FRENCH DECORATION
FOR NEW ZEALAND DOCTOR
In April last President Lebrun, of the French Republic, conferred on Dr. W. Marshall Macdonald, C.8.E., of Wellington, the Cross of Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. As Dr. Macdonald holds a Government appointment (medical member of the War Pensions Board), it was necessary to obtain the King's permission (as well as that of the New Zealand Government) for the acceptance and wearing of the insignia of a foreign order. This permission has now been obtained.
Dr. Macdonald served in 1915-1916 as Medecin-major with the French Army Medical Corps and in the latter year held a specialist's appointment as one of the neurologists attached to the IVth French Army District.
For several years he has been president of the Wellington French Club.
