PARAMOUNT THEATRE.

"Three Faces West."

Heralded as one of the industry's biggest films for 1940, Republic's-"Three Faces West" makes its New Zealand debut at the Paramount. Theatre tomorrow. A timely and .topical story exceptionally well acted. "Three". Faces West" deals with a Viennese refugee surgeon's problems when,: under the Nazi heel, he is compelled to leave his country with his daughter, penniless and under the protection of the United States. Charles Coburn portrays the conscientious Dr. Braun, who is so grateful-for the gift of freedom which America has given him, that he turns the misfortunes' of the stricken dustbowl area into an opportunity to serve humanity, repaying in a small measure the.'blessings that America has given him.. Sigrid Gurie portrays his daughter Leni, who is discontented at first with the hardships of her new life, as compared with the lighthearted gaiety of the Vienna she knew before the blitzkrieg. , But she,. too, comes under the spell of this ideal of world humanity, when a young farmer, played by John Wayne, inspires her with the spirit of democracy. Among the supporting players in this thought-fully-produced film are Sonny Bupp, Spencer Charters, Russell Simpson, Charles Waldron, and Helen McKellar. Gene Autry, provides another thoroughly entertaining musical Western in "Goldmine in the Sky/ the associate film. He is again assisted by Smiley Burnette, and in the female lead this time is Carol Hughes, whose likeness to Myrna Loy nearly, cost her her film career. The picture abounds in outdoor action.
