PEAS AND BEANS
These should be sown at fortnightly intervals to ensure a succession of well-filled pods. From now on a second-early or main-crop variety may be sown. Like all leguminous plants, peas are deep rooting, so the ground should be well dug, and manured to a good depth. Most authorities do not advise the use of nitrate of soda for any plants i of a leguminous nature, but others advocate a liberal use of this stimulant. Growers may try it out for themselves. This column is intended principally for gardeners with small plots, and the aim is to make it as practical and Useful as | possible. Inquiries on any matter of gardening interest will be welcomed.
