INDUSTRIAL SCENE

BRITAIN AND U.S.A.

N.Z. A WORKERS' PARADISE

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

AUCKLAND, This Day.

"The spirit of the British people is marvellous; they are determined on victory," said Mr. H. Campbell, secretary of the Auckland Painters' Union, who left New Zealand four months ago as workers' representative to the International Labour Conference at Geneva. While on his way there he was advised that the conference had been abandoned. He spent a month in Britain and returned to New Zealand through the United States.

He said that the British workers were putting their backs into it 100 per cent., working seven days a week to achieve victory. Munition works and clothing and boot factories were working night and day. Mr. Campbell made a close survey of working conditions in the United States, where all industries are working at high pressure, many in connection with war supplies. He is definitely of the opinion that New Zealand is a workers' paradise.
