DAY IN PARLIAMENT
ADJOURNMENT OF THE
HOUSE
At eight minutes after midnight the House of Representatives, after a full day's discussion, adjourned for three weeks, and unless an emergency requires an earlier summons it will not meet again until Wednesday, August 21.
Much of yesterday's business was concerned with discussion on the amendments to the Rural Housing Bill, which, though being generally commended, provoked an unexpectedly protracted argument. The Insurance Companies Bill, which was -expected to produce a general discussion, was referred to the Statutes Revision Committee, and this left the way clear for consideration of the Supplementary Estimates and the Appropriation "Bill, which gives legislative effect to the votes on the Estimates. These were approved with a minimum of discussion. The Legislative Council met this afternoon to set its seal on three Bills, two dealing with the war pensions and one with the Rural Housing Amendment Bill.
