IMPROVEMENTS ANNOUNCED
Improved telephone facilities with Wellington i for soldiers at Trentham Camp were announced last night by the Postmaster-General (the Hon. P. C. Webb). ..In addition to the provision of additional circuits to handle toll traffic, two 3d slot telephones are to be installed at the camp immediately for calls to Wellington subscribers, and three multi-coin slot telephones are also to be provided to enable toll calls to be made to any office. "These instruments," said the Minister, "will be installed in cabinets outside the post office, and soldiers will be able to dial direct Wel : lington subscribers at any time, irrespective of whether the post office is open or closed. In addition, three multi-coin slot telephones are to. be provided. Two will be located in the post office porch and the third at the V M.C.A. building. Toll calls to any office may be made from these telephones, which take pennies, sixpences, and shillings, the actual cbst of the call being inserted in the instrument by the caller at the request of the toll operator." ; Mr. Webb said that when the work in hand was completed, the following circuits, would be available for toll

"It is expected that these facilities will be sufficient to provide a firstclass service during even the busiest periods," said the Minister. "Concessions in inland telegram charges as well as in toll charge's have also been given members of the fighting forces. Telegrams lodged by 6r addressed to soldiers are accepted at the rate of Id a word, with a minimum charge of 6d, while no charge is imposed for the words contained in the address. This is a worth-while concession, as telegrams addressed to soldiers must! contain a fairly long address." _._____——.
