PRACTICAL SERVICE

WASHING FOR THE TROOPS

Washing dirty linen either actually or metaphorically is not generally the job of the Christian Church, and yet a Lower Hutt church has recently announced its intention to enter upon this work. The Lower Hutt Baptist Church —which keeps in close touch with the soldiers at Trentham —in its desire to help the boys has made a novel yet practical offer to one of the units in training to undertake,- as a labour of love, the weekly soft washing of as many as possible of its members. It was discovered that the washing facilities provided were in some cases very meagre and that in the absence of drying facilities some of the boys were wearing damp clothes. An appeal was made to the lady members of the church and a large number have responded with offers to undertake the soft washing of a soldier.

The scheme is being organised during this week.
