This morning at Government House his Excellency the Governor-General presented to the Rev. F. L. Frost, M.P., and Chaplain S. M. Hayes (Salvation, Army) the efficiency decorations awarded to them recently for long and efficient service in the New Zealand Auxiliary Forces. Mr. S. Ritchie, Conciliation Commissioner, arrived at Wellington today from the south. Mr. D. I. Macdonald, secretary of the Canterbury Employers' Association, arrived at Wellington by the steamer express from the south this morning. Mr. W. Murie, of Seatoun, has returned from a business visit to Australia. Mr. G. H. Bassant has returned to Wellington from Sydney. Mr. H. A. Beauchamphas returned to Wellington from Sydney. Mr. S. W. Peterson, who has been on a business visit to Australia, has returned to Wellington. Mr. G. S. T. Harden, accompanied by Mrs. Harden, has arrived back in Wellington from Australia. Mr. H. E. Childs has returned to Wellington from Sydney. Mr. C. F. Pulley has arrived back in Wellington from Australia. Mr. W. V. Russell, of Wellington, has arrived from Sydney. Mr. J. C. Brown has returned- to Wellington from Australia. Mr. P. A, McDonald has arrived back in Wellington from Sydney. Major H. E. Suckling, N.Z. Dental Corps, has been posted to Dental Headquarters, Trentham Mobilisation Camp. Mr. H. B. Riggs, genera! manager for New Zealand of the Goldberg Advertising Agency, Ltd., will leave by the Limited tonight for Auckland. . Mr. A. Connaghton, who was a member of the crew of the Tairoa, sunk by, the Graf Spee, and one of the prisoners released from the Altmark in the daring action of H.M.S. Cossack ' jis in Wellington. On Sunday he attended morning service at the Missions to Seamen Chapel! Mr. W. J. McNiven, one of ••■ the pioneer firemen of Taranaki, whose association with fire-fighting dates back to 1883, died at New Plymouth last week. He was for 31 years associated with the Hawera brigade, first as a lieutenant and then as captain, and, under Captain Wilson, he was in the team which won Dominion honours at two annual competitions. ; The d<*ath of Mr. D. J. McGowan, a past president of the Wellington Rotary Club, was referred to by the present holder of the office, Rotarian E. P. Hay, at the club's weekly lunch today." "Mr. McGowan crowded into . an astonishingly short period of time a record of public service of which any man would be proud," he said. Members stood in silence for a moment as a mark of respect to the late Rotarian.
