TRAWLER SUNK
(British Official Wireless.) (Received July 30, 2 p.m.)
RUGBY, July 29
The Admiralty announced that his Majesty's trawler Staunton has been sunk by an enemy mine.
Two features in the jubilee history of the Anglican Church in Stratford, written by a former vicar, are of close interest to Wellington people. The first lady principal of St. Mary's School, established under the aegis of the parish, was Miss Ella Allman Marchant, daughter of the late Mr. J. W. A. Marchant, one time Surveyor-Gene-ral. She was later succeeded by Miss E. Wilson, daughter of the late Mr. Kenneth Wilson, at one time principal of Wellington College.
In a report of the results of the Education Board election last week, the voting for the Hutt-Petone candidates was given wrongly. The figures should read: J. Stonehouse, 75; H. Fairclough, 7.
