Fraser) replied that the industry could not be developed at the present time and the money to be voted was.for officers who were beSng used in another division of the Industries and Commerce Department. The vote for the iron and steel industry included £1477 for salaries, Mr. Forbes said. What were the workers doing? Last year £225,000 had been voted and £30,000 was expended. Thist year there was a vote of £10,000 and' an estimated credit in aid of £3080. How were they going to get that credit out of an industry that had not started?

The Prime Minister: The mysteries of finance are unlimited. Mr. Fraser added that because of the war the development work could not go on and the workers were doing other work for. the Department. The vote was simply a matter of bookkeeping.
