COLLECTING WASTE

BOY SCOUTS SUGGESTED

The suggestion ' that Boy ■ Scouts should be organised to colleqt waste products in the interests of the nation was made in the House of Representatives yesterday by Mr. W. J. Bcpadfoot (National, Waitomo) -when the Estimates were under discussion. Mr. Broadfoot said the vote toff £600 for the Boy Scouts' Association^ was a reminder that the service of th»e boys could be more fully availed of during war time. They could collect waste metal, bottles, empty tins, and other articles. The people of New Ziealand had enjoyed a high standard of living and possibly had been rather w.Bsteful in the past. With the boys organised to collect waste products people might put aside their tins and other articles for them to collect. If the collections could not be put to immediate use they could be stored for the future when the need might be more pressing.
