PRICE TRIBUNAL

CRITICISM AND DEFENCE

Reference to the cost of the Price Investigation Tribunal was made by Mr. H. S. S. Kyle (National, Riccarton) in the House of Representatives yesterday. He drew attention to the provision in the Industries and Commerce, Tourist and Publicity Vote of £5460 for the tribunal.

Mr. A. S. Richards (Government, Roskill) interjected that the tribunal had done a splendid job. Mr. Kyle suggested that practical men of commerce could be obtained to do the job

Mr. Richards asked whether Mr. Kyle and the House knew that the tribunal had possibly saved increases aggregating £1,000,000 on foodstuffs in the last twelve months, justifying the expenditure of £5460., The appointment of the tribunal, he declared, w.as one of the cheapest investments this country had had since it had been under Constitutional Government.
