AIDING OF AGGRESSOR

The Foreign Office spokesman characterised the closing of the Burma Road as "unfriendly and unlawful." In emphasising the importance of the route, he declared that Britain had immensely benefited Japan, and her action was tantamount to aiding and abetting an aggressor. Britain's position was legally untenable and involved violations of Sino-British treaties, international law, and resolutions of the League of Nations.
