AWARUA AND CLIPPER

AUCKLAND, This Day,
Realising that this-is a day of historic importance in commercial aviation, crowds gathered round the fences at the Mechanics' Bay air base today. The Tasman flying-boat Awarua landed from Sydney at 11.8 a.m. The American Clipper from California is due at 2.45 p.m
The Awarua' did the trip in 9 hours 23 minutes. Commanded by Captain Burgess, it had 15 passengers, including the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, who was met by. the Hon. P. C. Webb. Other passengers were Mr. A. E. Rudder, of Qantas Airways; Captain C. Johnston, Assistant Director of Civil Aviation \n Australia. Mrs.' Sullivan was also a passenger. A two-way radio communication, both with the Awarua and the American Clipper, was maintained by the Musi ck Memorial Radio Station at Tamaki.
