TALKS AND INSPECTIONS

MR. SULLIVAN BUSY

INTEREST IN OIL PLANT

(Received July 11, 10 a.m.) SYDNEY, July 10. The New Zealand Minister of Supply (the Hon. D.- G. Sullivan) stated late tonight that he had had conferences with Ministers, business men, and Government officials, had visited factories, and altogether had been fully occupied since his arrival in Sydney on Saturday.

He has had more conferences with the Australian Prime Minister (Mr. R. G. Menzies), and also with the Treasurer (Mr. P. C. Spender), and the Premier, of New South Wales (Mr. A. Mair). He has also inspected various industries in operation, including a small-arms factory at Lithgow, where rifles and machine-guns are manufactured. He was shown over a new plant at Glen Davis (Newnes), where oil is being extracted from shale. This visit of inspection, he stated, had been of real value because of New Zealand's shale deposits.

Mr. Sullivan leaves for Brisbane tomorrow, and returns on Sunday. He will then go to Newcastle to inspect the steelworks and subsidiary industries.
