HAD HIS REASON.
Hollywoad stars receive > request! . for autographs every day, but the ona Edward Arnold sent to a boyhood pal, Freddie Breves, had an unusual effect. It mades Breves a hero in the eyes of his daughter. Breves, who became a police officer and was wounded in the line of duty, lived next door to Arnold on Houston Street in New York, two , blocks from the Bowery. They haven't seen one another since, they were boys, but Breves took the liberty ! of Arnold because his daughter 'was sceptical about his ever knowing ; the star. Arnold, who plays a leading featured role in "The Earl of Chicago," starring Robert Montgomery, had a „ special portrait made, autographed it, - and sent it to Breves." In return, Breves.sent Arnold information about .i their old Bowery playground which is 3 now the site of a modern tenement.
