HOSPITAL STAFF
MEDICAL OFFICERS'
SALARIES
The Wellington Ratepayers' Association exe/utive last night congratulated Mr.F. Castle oh his appointment as chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board.
Reference was made to the scheme now being discussed by the Board to make part-time payment to the present honorary medical staff or to such of the personnel as may accept tiie Board's proposals. It was reported that from information received by the association it was possible that there would be over 30 doctors coming under the provisions of the scheme and that the cost in salaries would approximate £13,000. This, stated Mr. H. H. Miller, would be in addition to the sum of £17,000 to £19,000 paid to the permanent medical staff. " The new proposals if finalised by the Board would in effect turn the hospital into a stipendiary controlled hospital. Time alone would tell whether such a change would be in the public interest.
