BEEF AND DAIRY CATTLE SALES
The fat cattle forward at the sale conducted in Woodville on Monday met with a ready sale, and maintained recent rates. Several pens of stationbred steers met with a sound sale, and an average yarding of boner cows met with fair competition at fully late rates.
Prices are: Fat Hereford cows and heifers, £7 to £8; light fat P.A. steers, £8 to £8 15s; fat ex-dairy cows, £5 to £7 15s; prime weight vealers, to £3; springing cows, £7 to £8 15s; springing heifers, of good quality, and close to profit, £9 12s 6d to £10 7s 6d; weaner Jersey heifers, £2 10s to £3 2s.
A clearing sale on account of Hamblin Bros, was conducted in Rongotea recently. An offering of 48 cows, representing the complete Tomkins herd, was sold under spirited competition. This herd had averaged 3101b of butterfat to the day of the sale. July calvers averaged £16, August calvers £15 15s, September calvers £14, and October calvers £12 3s. Prices were: Cows in milk, £9 10s to £14; July calvers, £13 10s to £21; August calvers. £9 10s to £21; September calvers, £8 10s to £17 ss; October calvers, £8 5s to £15 10s; later calvers. £5 to £9 10s; three-quarter cows, £7 to £8; springing heifers, £11 10s to £14 10s. Pigs: Weaners, 22s 6d; sow and litter of eight, £9; sows and litters of nine, £11 10s to £14; Berkshire sows in pig, £6 5s to £7; Berkshire boar, £5.
