SALVATION ARMY

THE QUEEN'S INTEREST

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth visited the Salvation Army Red Shield Hotel in the heart of London's hotel district last Wednesday and met New Zealand, Australian, and Canadian troops, with whom she had many conversations concerning their homes and service experiences, states a cable received by local headquarters of the Salvation Army from London.

Her Majesty was received by MajorGeneral Crearar, senior officer of the Canadian headquarters in London, and Brigadier Montague, Deputy Adjutant General, with General Carpenter, head of the Salvation Army, and Commissioner Cunningham, chief of the staff, and Brigadier Steele, Canadian chaplain. ~

The Queen inspected all parts of the hotel and declared it was even better than she had expected from the good reports she had received. All were captivated by the Queen's charm and her interest in their affairs.

The demand for better conditions for the troops at the railway stations has added still further to the Salvation Army's work amongst the thousands of men constantly entraining day and night. • Greatly extended sleeping accommodation is being arranged on the stations.
