PAYMENT IN ADVANCE
(To the Editor.)
Sir,—With the idea of easing the burden of a large payment for income tax in February next, I went to the Income Tax Department this morning to pay a small, sum on account of tax for 1940-41, and was informed that I was entitled to interest on payments made in advance.
This was news to me and may be to many others.
However, I asked that no interest be taken into account when the demand for tax was forwarded to me and I suggest that here is a way in which many taxpayers can help the war effort. Lots of people have money standing idle on current account at their banks. Why not pay income tax in advance without payment of interest and so do a little bit more towards financing the war?
For my part, I intend to get all mine paid as soon as possible and if many others would follow, a considerable help could be given to the Minister of Finance in this way.—l am, etc.,
PAY YOUR INCOME TAX EARLY.
