ENEMY TRADING
NETHERLANDS INDIES
To clear up an impression that' all firms in the Netherlands Indies with head offices in Holland are to be regarded as enemies, which appears to be current in trading circles, the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) made the following announcement today:—
"Since the Netherlands are now at war with Germany, intercourse is prohibited between firms in the Netherlands Indies and their former head offices in Holland, and there is no, objection under the Enemy Trading Emergency Regulations, 1939, to firms in New Zealand transacting business with firms in the Netherlands Indies other than:
"(a) Those persons specified as enemy traders in the schedule to the notice under the Enemy Trading Emergency Regulations, 1939, issued oh June 18 as a supplement to the New Zealand Gazette of June 13 and dated the 14th day of June, 1940. (Consideration is being given to the question, of removing these persons from the list of enemy traders as published); and (b) Any person suspected of acting on instructions received through neutral countries from persons in enemy territories. It will, of course, be appreciated that this includes territories in enemy occupation."
