VICEREGAL. Her Excellency Lady Galway was present yesterday morning at a meeting of the Lady Galway Patriotic Fund.
Mr. G. R. Bruce-Smith, general manager' of the Australian Provincial Assurance Association, Ltd., is visiting New Zealand.
Captain S. Holm has returned to Wellington after a business trip to Australia.
Mr. A. E. Donne, secretary and general manager of the Wellington Woollen Manufacturing Co., Ltd., has returned from a business visit to Australia.
Mr. W. P. Endean, M.P.,.has returned to Wellington from- overseas.
A motion of sympathy with Councillor W. B. Rainey in the death of his mother was passed by the Lower Hutt Borough Council last evening.
Mr. Justice Tyndall and Messrs. W. C. Prime and A. L. Monteith, of the Arbitration Court, left Wellington for the South Island last night.
Mr. T. G. Beck, who was recently promoted to District Public Works Engineer for Canterbury, was honoured by the staff of the Public Works Department, Temuka, at a .social and presented with a., crystal set, a silver entree dish, silver hot water jug, fountain pen, and fish and cake "knives and forks. The qualities and abilities of Mr. Beck were eulogised by Mr. J. O. Riddeli, engineer in charge of irrigation in Mid-Canterbury•
