PONEKE AND HUTT

In a match in which open play by the forwards was the main order Poneke beat Hutt at the Hutt Recreation Ground, but there was little between the teams. Poneke held a territorial advantage in the first spell, and the position was reversed after the .change over. It was in surprise breakaways that Poneke gave most concern to Hutt, splendid dash and following up, especially by O'Brien and Hegglun, resulting in tries. At times the backs showed up, notably King, Burton, and Williams for Hutt and Johns, Vile, Russell, a^id Allen for Poneke; Hegglun scored two tries and Johns and Vile one each for Poneke/ Vile converting one. Williams scored a try for Hutt, Cassidy converting and kicking a penalty goal. Result: Poneke 14, Hutt 8. Mr. R. N. Bryden refereed.
