CAMP ENTERTAINERS

CONCERT FOR R.N.Z.A.F.

ENTHUSIASTIC AUDIENCE

On Tuesday night, the- executive committee of the Official Gamp Entertainers was responsible for an excellent concert arranged for the Air Force at Levin. Mrs. Chas. McDonald was in charge of the programme and each number was enthusiastically re: ceived by the large audience. Mr. Colin Davidson was stage manager, and his efforts behind the scenes. contributed in no small measure to the success of the evening.

"Buddy" Langman humorously introduced each performer, and also, with his doll Jerry, provided a ventriloquial turn, which received much applause. Marjorie Newport and her pupils provided a snappy ballet, and solos were contributed by Mrs. John Gamble, Misses Maureen Hickford, Pauline Shotlander, Dorothy Seymour, and Messrs. Bert Hickford and Douglas Roche. Each of these had to respond to a double encore. Joan Raine and her pupils performed two excellent ballets, and one of the most popular items was that given by Leading Aircraftman "George," who gave a running commentary on a football match, bringing in well-known camp personalities. Other members of the party were Misses -Williams, Melita Formosa, 'Les Pearce, Nola McLeod. Elaine Montgomery, Norma Braddock, Leah Kerr, Thelma Day, G. Edwardes, Mavis Brewin, Joy Collie, Shirley Morrison, Joy Wilson, Roma Taylor, Jessie Pollock, Kathleen Walshe, Jack Blake, and Charlie Cooper.

As well as organising the programme, Mrs. Chas. McDonald played all the accompaniments.

At the conclusion, Flight-Lieutenant Nicholl, on behalf of the officers and men, thanked Mrs. McDonald and the performers for the entertainment provided. The French National Anthem and "God Save the King" were sung, after which the guests were entertained to supper by Mrs. White, wife of the Camp Commandant, and officers. Mrs. E. J. Hewitt, well known in Wellington, and wife of Corporal Hewitt, was in charge of the refreshments for. the "boys,", this service being very much appreciated. ,
