MINERS SEEK HIGHER WAGES
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
CHRISTCHURCH. This Day.
A 10 per cent, increase in wages to offset the higher cost of living, with a provision that there should be a revision of wage rates after every six months to meet any further increase in living costs, and a reduction in the working day from eight to seven hours, are among the conditions sought by miners in a new agreement, for which negotiations are now in progress, according to Mr. A. McLagan, national secretary of the United Mine Workers of New Zealand. A second confer* ence between the mine owners and miners' representatives will be held in Wellington on Wednesday to discuss an agreement for the coal miners of New Zealand.
