ANTI-AIRCRAFT GUNS

MELBOURNE, This Day,
The first two Australian-made antiAiiircraft guns were handed to the
; Army authorities at the Maribyrnong 'ordnance factory by the Assistant Minister of Suppliy, Mr. A. W. Fadden. These are 3.7 in guns and are of the .type most useh by the British Army. ■They have barrels 25 feet long. "From now on Australia's aerial defences will steadily receive a great 'number of these powerful guns, but I "shope they wOl never be needed for ghe defence oft our shores," said Mr. - jpadden. Accepting tihe guns, General Sir jßrudenell W&ite, Chief of the General Staff, said: "The sooner you turn jfchese two intto 200 the happier we Of the Forces^ will be." Mr. Fadden.added that the guns were tentirely Australian made and the same frith the tools required. The guns tost £10,000 each. The first two guns ' Vere completed ten months after the 'drawings had been received from Engaand.
