PETONE AND HUTT
For the sixth year in succession .Petone defeated flutt in the match for the McUain Shield. Although facing a strong challenge from' Hutt on the Recreation Ground' Petone had a four-point win. Establishing a lead of five .points In the ilrst half, thu.v found themselves two points down early in the second spell, but a penalty goal and a try gave them a lead which they were able to hold until no-side soundud. Forwards and backs worked untiringly for Hutt, a number oi combined thrusts falling just short of the I etone line. Withstanding a determined Petont attack half-way through the second spell. Hutt s forwards fought back and towards the end of the game were Hammering at the Petone defence, which held. For the winners Ryfcn, Hardy, and Uougan scored tries, McGurk and U.van each convertIng one and Ashton kicking a penalty goal Tries by Burton and Williams, one converted by Cassldy, and a field goal by Keinp made up the Hutt score. The result was Pctone lo Hutt 12. The referee was Mr. A. Hooper
