WELLINGTON V. ORIENTAL
The match at Prince of Wales Park between Wellington and Oriental was very exciting during the second half, as Oriental steadily reduced the lead and finally e.vened the points. During the first half, Wellington, though failing to hook the ball, were better in the loose, and, with the backs going well, held the advantage. On the play they deserved more than the two tries scored. Many of the passing rushes staged by the Wellington backs were splendidly executed, and tries failed to materialise by the narrowest of margins.
The Oriental backs gave Dwyer much better support In ' the' second half, but, attacks could not be pressed home. Both packs worked splendidly, and the loose rushes carried plenty of sting. Illingworth and Cochrane (2) scored tries for Wellington, Taylor converting one try and kicking a penalty goal. For Oriental, Martin kicked three penalty goals.. The result was:—Wellington 14. Oriental 9. Mr. A. It. Morris was the referee.
