A FAITHFUL FRIEND

"When mother and her sister were about as old as I am now, auntie was lighting the range one morning when suddenly she felt something brush against her legs. She looked round and saw a big black and white dog, which had evidently just walked into the kitchen through the open back door. She tried to chase it away, but it settled down in front of the fire and would not budge. The dog, which was a cross between a sheep dog and a retriever, was called "Cheeky." He followed them everywhere, and wouldn't let anyone in the gate at night time unless they uttered the password, the dog had been taught to obey. We have a huge framed photograph of "Cheeky," which was taken from a photo with mother and her sister. A staunch old friend, who is never to be forgotten. "WATER NYMPH."
