Close-of-season Festivities,

On Saturda" afternoon the Lyall Bay Tennis Club terminated a successful season. The president, Mr. Noad, presented the winners of club events with trophies, and about forty members enjoyed afternoon tea. In -the evening about 24 members and friends carried on the celebrations at the Exhibition Cabaret. Well Repaid. Those who attended the recent meeting of. the Kelburn branch of the League of Mothers were well repaid for braving the wintry conditions prevailing,' for they were entertained with some delightful music, given by two popular radio broadcasters, Messrs. Morgan and Harris, who presented a programme of vocal and pianoforte solos. Mrs. McLeod's solos, "Angus McDonald" and "My Am Folk," and two numbers by the choir ' were also very much appreciated. Mrs. Chas. McPhee presided, and during the afternoon she held an admission service for two new members. Bouquets were presented to Miss Stewart and to Mrs. McLeod. Afterwards there was tea and a social hour. Part Singing1 by Sextet. In the absence of Mrs. H. D. Bennett through illness, Mrs. W. Gilmour presided at a recent meeting of the Wellington East branch of the League of Mothers in the Congregational Hall. A very enjoyable programme of part singing, duets, and solos was provided by a sextet comprising Mesdames Proctor, Pole, Wright. Maude, Adams, and Goodwin, with Mrs. Goodwin as pianist. Dainty ■ sprays made by Mrs. Farcy were presented to each member of the sextet and to Mrs. Gilmour, and afternoon tea was served. Island Bay Nursing Division. The fortnightly meeting of the Island Bay Nursing Division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade was held in St. Hilda's clubroom, Island Bay, on Tuesday afternoon. ■ There was a good attendance. The division was favoured by a visit from Mrs. G. W. Barltrop, lady district superintendent, who inspected the work and expressed great satisfaction at the manner in which the division y was progressing. Mrs. Barltrop also gave a short and very interesting address which was very much appreciated by all mem' bers. Mrs. M. L. Russell, lady dis^ trict officer, was also in attendance.
