SOCIAL PROGRESS
TRIBUTE TO ENGLISHWOMEN
' Englishwomen's supreme trust in the future, their courage, and their great faith were described at ameeting yesterday of the Women's Spciai Progress Movement by Miss Evelyn Watson, who is not long back after 15 months abroad. Miss Watson left England on the outbreak of war but before her departure noticed much to commend, particularly in the way in which women had received evacuees into their homes and billeted soldiers without any hesitation or thought of self.
For her the' Thames was symbolic of England and England's spirit, Miss Watson said. It combined the ugly and the beautiful, the past and the^ present day, and these were welded" by a great spirit of progress in .which, reverence of the past, and of religion, were omnipresent. The speaker .was. secretary' of the central group before the movement's amalgamation, and was given a lovely floral. posy' by a fellow-member.
