GALLANTRY AWARDS IN R.A.P.
(British Official Wireless;) ■ .RUGBY, April 13. The King has approved. awards for gallantry in action of the Distinguished - Flying Cross to Flight-Lieutenant F. Phillips and the Distinguished Flying Medal to Corporal W. G. Lillie. FligMLieuteriant Phillips and Corporal Lillie . were captain and rear-gunner respec-. tively of an R.A.F. aircraft attacked . by six Junkers 88 aircraft when on convoy escort patrol early this month.. By his skilful handling of hi 3 . machine, Flight-Lieutenant.. Phillip3 avoided a first attack by machine-gun fire from two enemy aircraft and so manoeuvred that Corporal Lillie, by . well-directed fire which in the face of the oncoming attackers he withheld till the enemy was within 100 yards^ was able to bring down one enemy plane into the sea in flames. Thi» determination of attack terminated th« action, the remaining enemy plane! retiring at speed
